Recycling
Hours and Usage
Recycling services are available Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 5pm at the Wastewater Treatment Plant: 8251 W CR 350 N. Mulberry. When the recycling trailer at the Wastewater Treatment Plant is full, please continue to be patient as we wait for the vendor to haul it away & return it to us. Please do NOT leave any items outside of the recycling bin. We do understand that it’s frustrating when it’s full but ask that everyone respect the rules and not leave any items to blow in the wind. And, as a rule of thumb, it is ALWAYS helpful to break down any cardboard.
For those who utilize this recycling location, and do it with respect, the whole community appreciates you. Many recycling locations have shut down because of misuse. We do not want to move toward that!
The items accepted include all tin/steel cans, aluminum cans, and all plastics containing the recycling triangle with the number 1 through 7, newspapers, magazines, and BROKEN DOWN cardboard boxes. PLEASE empty the containers or bags you have brought your items in and take the containers or bags home with you.
Glass Recycling
Clear, green, and brown glass is recyclable but must be separated from the rest of your recycling. There are containers labeled for GLASS ONLY next to the recycling trailer. NO glass can be put in the recycling trailer or the trailer is considered contaminated and will go to the landfill.
Non-Accepted Items
Items NOT ACCEPTED for recycling; household trash, hazardous chemicals, Styrofoam, Oil cans, anti-freeze, light bulbs (regular or fluorescent), dishes, plastic traps or coverings, plastic bags, vinyl siding, appliances, electronic equipment, tires, and paint.
Electronic Waste and Hazardous Materials
In January 2011 the State of Indiana made it illegal to discard electronics in your regular trash pick-up. All electronic waste such as TV, computers, answering machines, radios, stereos, cable and satellite receivers, etc. will no longer be picked up. Electronic items can be taken to the Wildcat Creek Waste Management drop-off site at the Frankfort Street Department located at 905 Burlington Ave, Frankfort, IN 46041. If you have questions regarding electronic disposal, contact Joel Freeman at 1-855-659-4257.
The Wildcat Creek Solid Waste Management advises you to call ahead to schedule an appointment and to learn how to properly transport hazardous materials. The drop-off site will accept pesticides, fuels, solvents, spray cans, oil-based paint, pool chemicals, fire extinguishers, acids, oxidizers, motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, car batteries, propane tanks, mercury devices, mercury in jars, fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescents, rechargeable batteries, and wood preservatives.
Compost Program
The compost areas are located at the WWTP for residents located within the town limits. Any yard waste such as leaves, dead flowers, and grass clippings should be placed in the area at the west end of the WWTP behind the older blue pole barn. If you have tree limbs or bushes please throw them over the hill where it is marked behind the pole barn. Please empty the containers or bags you have brought your items in and take the containers or bags home with you. We will NOT accept any trash, carpet, furniture, or building materials. NO cement, blocks, bricks, etc. is allowed.
Leaf Pick-Up
Town employees will pick up leaves each fall. Residents can rake their leaves into rows along the street. DO NOT bag leaves or put them in large piles. Dates of pick-up will be announced each fall.
Spring Cleanup
Each spring, the Town of Mulberry and trash vendor team up to offer residents a curb- side Spring Clean Up. During Spring Clean Up the trash vendor will pick up large items such as couches, dressers, and mattresses. This is a great opportunity to rid your property of unwanted items! Information will be posted at the bottom of the Utility bill leading up to the event. Flyers will also be posted at the Town Hall, Bank, Post Office, Facebook and we will also send out a Reach Alert.
Electronic Recycling
Each spring the Town of Mulberry will offer electronic recycling at 128 S. Glick St. A vendor will have an electronic recycling trailer for residents to drop off unwanted items such as computers, t.v.’s, monitors, printers, keyboards, cell phones, dvd players, cd’s, radios, circuit boards & cords/cables. Information will be posted at the bottom of the Utility bill leading up to the event. Flyers will also be posted at the Town Hall, Bank, Post Office, Facebook and we will also send out a Reach Alert.
