At the present time, the system has approximately 500 residential and business sewage connections and has a flow of 100,000 gallons per day. The clean water discharged from the plant is discharged into the Wildcat Creek. Water being discharged must meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) discharge permit. Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) also has strict regulations.
An onsite laboratory tests all aspects of the plant for quality assurance and must follow state regulations. The plant has two equalization basins which hold 250,000 gallons of sewage each, so anytime it is necessary, we can store large amounts of waste to be treated at a later time.
Below are some tips that will help keep cost down and make our plant run smoother
- DO NOT dump grease into your sewers.
- DO NOT flush unused medication into the sewer. You can call the Clinton County Sheriff office for information on a program that allows for proper disposal of unwanted medication.
- DO NOT flush items down your toilet such as sanitary products, diapers, wipes, etc.
- Sump Pumps are NOT allowed to be hooked into the sewer system.
